A couple months ago there was a great piece on Minnesota Public Radio about the development of the teenage brain. Robert Epstein (my new favorite psychologist) challenged the assumption that teens are impulsive and unwise because of their mental development. Here is the description from the site:
For years, teenage impulsiveness and immature behavior was attributed to hormones. More recently, scientists have suggested the teenage brain is the problem. One psychologist says that theory is all wrong, and believes teenagers are capable of being far more mature and productive than we think.
It’s a great interview and well worth your time. You can listen to the entire segment by clicking play down below. You can also download the audio here for playing later or transfer to your iPod.

that was a really good interview. it is nice to hear someone say something different than what is being said all the time about teens being stupid.
Hey Peter, thanks for stopping by the site!
Yeah, I enjoyed the fresh perspective. It seemed like the host didn’t quite want to buy it.
Really enjoyed the interview. I’m still curious about the research in regards to the development of the pre-frontal lobe that he didn’t mention.
Brandon, thanks for stopping by. Same here about the other research. I’m thinking I’ll pick up his book, “The Case Against Adolescence” and see if he gets more into it.
